The Snake Itself: $50 to $1,000+, Depending on Morph

Upfront Setup: Roughly $200 to $500

A 2x2x2 foot or 36x18x18 inch PVC or glass enclosure is the biggest single line item. For the heat source, many keepers start with an under-tank heat mat and thermostat kit, though current specialist guidance increasingly favors swapping the mat for a low-wattage halogen basking bulb on that same thermostat, positioned over the substrate rather than underneath it. Round out the setup with warm, cool, and humid hides, a digital thermometer and hygrometer to keep this dry-preferring species in its correct humidity range, and several inches of deep, loose substrate for burrowing. Ongoing Costs: Genuinely Low, Roughly $10 to $25 a Month

Frozen and thawed rodents, fed infrequently since hognoses don't eat as often as some other snakes, plus occasional substrate replacement, make up nearly the entire monthly cost.

A routine reptile wellness exam runs roughly $50 to $100, with a fecal test around $25 to $50. Radiographs, if needed, run $100 to $250 per view.
